  70.                  * MEDshare#1 1st TIME INSTALLATION *

  73. 1. Insure that you have at least 5 Mega bytes of free disk  space
  74. on your hard disk to hold the MEDshare#1 program and data files.
  75.  
  76. 2.  Insure that you have DOS 3.3 (or greater) installed  on  your
  77. computer using the DOS 'VER' utility.
  78.  
  79. 3.  Check  your hard disk for any faults using the  DOS  'CHKDSK'
  80. utility  (see  your  DOS manual for more  information).   If  any
  81. faults  are  found  they  MUST  be  corrected  before  installing
  82. MEDshare#1.

  84. 4. Check your 'CONFIG.SYS' file to insure that it has:
  85.  
  86. Single user DOS system....: FILES =  60 (minimum value)
  87.                             BUFFERS = 9 (or greater)
  88.  
  89. Single user WINDOWS system: FILES = 150 (minimum value)
  90.                             BUFFERS = 9 (or greater)
  91.  
  92. NET BIOS networking system: FILES = 150 (minimum value)
  93. (per work station)          BUFFERS = 9 (or GREATER)
  94.  
  95. NOVELL  2.x & 3.x system...: (read note below)
  96. *  Note - NOVELL places a limit of 40 file handles  per  station,
  97. regardless of the station's local setting.  This can be  modified
  98.  
  99. by  creating  the  following  file and placing  it  in  the  same
  100. directory as your CONFIG.SYS file for each work station.
  101.  
  102.        File name: SHELL.CFG
  103.        Contents.: FILE HANDLES = nn (value 60 or greater)
  104.                   CACHE BUFFERS = xx (optional entry)
  105.  
  106. 5.  If  you had to make any changes to your CONFIG.SYS  file  you
  107. must REBOOT your computer.  The values placed into the CONFIG.SYS
  108. file are only read by your computer at BOOT time.
  109.  
  110. *** You are now ready to load your distribution disk's and  setup
  111. your MEDshare#1 data files. ***
  112.

  115.             * MEDshare#1 1st TIME & UPGRADE INSTALLATION *

  118. 1) If 'UPDATING' your MEDshare#1 system - make a backup  of  your
  119. current  MEDshare#1  installation  - program and data files. This
  120. should be to either floppy disks or tape.
  121.  
  122. 2) Make a backup of the distribution disks you received your  new
  123. release/update on.
  124.  
  125. 3) To insure that you do not have any faults on your hard disk it
  126. is  advisable  to run the DOS 'CHKDSK' program (without  any  fix
  127. parameters).   If  you receive any error messages  they  must  be
  128. properly  cleared before you can continue - CALL FOR  YOUR  LOCAL
  129. HARDWARE SUPPORT - DO NOT USE YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL ALL DISK FAULTS
  130. HAVE   BEEN  CORRECTED. (For normal day to day  usage   of   your
  131. system  it is advisable to insert this 'CHKDSK'  program  request
  132. into  your 'AUTOEXEC.BAT' file so that a basic integrity test  is
  133. performed on your computer each time you turn it on.)
  134.  
  135. 4)   If there were no problems encountered by 'CHKDSK'  then  you
  136. are ready to install the MEDshare#1 distribution files onto your
  137. hard disk.
  138.  
  139. 5) Place distribution disk #1 into either disk drive 'A' or 'B'.
  140.  
  141. 6) From your DOS prompt enter the following:
  142.    for disk drive 'A':   A:INSTALL <enter>
  143.    for disk drive 'B':   B:INSTALL <enter>
  144.  
  145. This INSTALL routine will step you through the process  needed to
  146. load  all  of the MEDshare#1 distribution files  onto  your  hard
  147. disk.   You  will be prompted to enter information  necessary  to
  148. properly  install your MEDshare#1 distribution files, create  the
  149. sub-directory  these  files  are  to  reside  in,  and  make  any
  150. necessary  to  your  CONFIG.SYS file.  Upon  completion  of  this
  151.  
  152. INSTALL   process  you  will  be  ready  to  CREATE/UPDATE   your
  153. MEDshare#1 data files. To create your data files you must run the
  154. program U107T108.  This  program  will  create/update all of your
  155. data files for the MEDshare#1  main  program.   Run  the  COLLECT
  156. program to create its data files .
  157.  
  158. * Note - If this is the first time you have installed  MEDshare#1
  159. on  to  your computer you should print a copy of  the  MEDshare#1
  160. 'USER MANUAL'.  This  manual is over 160 pages long and  contains
  161. instructions   on  how to load and use  MEDshare#1.   This  'USER
  162. MANUAL'  is  in eight parts and can be printed  by  entering  the
  163. following command:

  168. 7)  You  can now load the MEDshare#1 program  by  entering:  MED1
  169. <enter>.   If  your MEDshare#1 data files need to be  created  or
  170. updated  you will be requested to run the  U107T108.EXE  program.
  171. If  your  current data files do not need to be updated  your  new
  172. MEDshare#1 system should be ready for use.

  177.              * YOU ARE NOW READY TO USE MEDshare#1 *

  179. Before  you attempt to setup any patients you will need to  build
  180. at least one 'CHARGE' table and setup one 'DOCTOR'.  The best way
  181. to  learn  the  features  of MEDshare#1  is  to  start  with  the
  182. 'UTILITIES'  section  of  the program and work your  way  UP  the
  183. MEDshare#1 MASTER MENU. Print out your MEDshare#1 user manual and
  184. the README.2ND file and read both (at least become familiar  with
  185. their  contents).  If you  have any problems on a  specific  data
  186. element while  entering data into MEDshare#1 just press the  'F1'
  187. help key for assistance.
